CONDUCTOR'S CARELESSNESS
WOMAN INJURED ON TRAM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 17. Mrs. M. A. Cooper claimed £282 damages from the City Council on the ground that, when- boarding a tramcar with a baby in her arms, the conductor negligently threw her push-chair on to the car, struck plaintiff, and caused her to fall against the side of the car, with the result that she sustained injuries and was incapacitated for some weeks. The magistrate said the conductor should have exercised more care, especially as plaintiff was carrying a baby and helping her young children on to the car. The medical evidence showed that plaintiff’s injuries were not serious, but that her nerves were prejudicially affected, and he awarded £6O damages a’nd costs.
