OPERATION ON THE KING
CONDITION SATISFACTORY - PART OF TWO RIBS REMOVED PATIENT HAS A GOOD NIGHT By Telegraph—-Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian Press Association. United Service. London, July 16. The operation on the King has been successfully performed. A bulletin states that a portion of two ribs was removed in order that the circumscribed abscess of one and a-half indies across should be directly drained and treated.. His Majesty's progress is extremely satisfactory. Sir H. M. Rugby and Professor Wilfred Trotter performed the operation on the King, who bore it very satisfactorily. It is pointed out that it was more serious than was foreshadowed, involving the cutting of two ribs, but Court circles emphasised that his Majesty is fitter than when first operated upon. There is confidence that his complete recovery will now bo hastened. The Prince of Wales, the Duke of York and the Duke of Gloucester remained at Buckingham Palace while the operation was taking place. Seven doctors and specialists were present. Just before noon yesterday it became clear that the operation had been performed. The departure of the Prince of Wales and the Dukes of York and Gloucester, followed by that of the two surgeons and Sir Francis Shipway, anaesthetist, was regarded by the crowd gathered outside the palace gates as an indication that the operation had proceeded satisfactorily. An official bulletin states the King had a good night, both general and local conditions being satisfactory. Sir Stanley Hewett, Sir Hugh Rigby, Professor Trotter and Lord Dawson of Penn conferred for an hour. It is understood they are satisfied with tho King’s progress. The Prince of Wales was at the Palace till ’after the consultation.
