THE HEALTH OF THE KING.
The news that his medical advisers had found it necessary to operate again upon His Majesty the King will have caused some misgivings throughout the Empire. Coming so soon after a previous relapse there will be a tendency to accept the optimism of the surgeons with some degree of caution. The King is no longer a young man, and the strain and drain upon his strength which the new symptoms seem to indicate cannot be ignored. At the same time, there seems a consensus of medical opinion that the latest surgery should make complete recovery not only certain but more rapid than would otherwise have been possible. It has been suggested that His Majesty should take a health recruiting trip to some of the Dominions. There can be no doubt that a decision to do so would be warmly welcomed, and might prove of service in the intangible but very real manner in which the Crown shares the burden of Empire administration. If such a course is decided’ upon it is certain that the claims of New Zealand will not be overlooked. Its equable climate would seem ideal for convalescence if that stage were not passed, and if it were, King George will have sufficient happy recollection of bis visit here nearly a generation ago to make a further stay in the Dominion a pleasurable anticipation. In the meantime there is no part of Greater Britain where wishes for his complete and early recovery will be more heartfelt than in New Zealand.
