DISTRICT NEWS

KIORE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very succesful dance, organised by the Girl Guides, was recently held in the Kiore Hall, which was tastefully decorated for the occasion. The weather being favourable, large crowds attended from Te Wera, Matau, Purangi and Huiroa. Music was supplied by Messrs Christian and Mounsey, Kiore, and an excellent supper was provided by the Guides and ladies of the district. Patrol Leader Mary Stewart was M.C., and kept things moving brightly. Miss Hasler and Mr. Houston, won the lucky spot waltz, and Miss B. Hasler and Mr. Watkins the Monte Carlo.

During the evening Air. Jack Mounsey, on behalf of the Guides, thanked the people for their attendance. Later, a box of chocolates was competed for, and won by Mr. A. Armstrong. Among the dancers were Patrol Leader M. Stewart, Guides Mounsey, Hasler, Corkery, Foreman, Yandle, Simmons and Brownie Patterson. All wore their smart uniforms.

Last month the Guides attended the birthday party given by the Stratford Girl Guides and .thoroughly enjoyed themselves. During the afternoon Commissioner Stevens enrolled Charlotte Yandle and Elizabeth Simmons as members.

Patrol Leader M. Stewart, Guides Mounsey, Hasler and Corkery, have passed the child nursing examination, and Guide Foreman the second-class examination.

TUMAHU.

(From Our Own Correspondent).

Tumahu had a real deluge and gale on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th instant. In places the roads were badly flooded with storm water, which the watertables could not carry away. No serious damage is reported, but a large tree on the Newall Road shows how severe the electrical storm was, as the lightning splintered part of it to matchwood, and part of the trunk was flung over a fence. Most of the slag is now sown, and the cows are starting to come in again. There has been no real shorage of feed this winter, and unless we get some very bad weather between now and spring, a good season should be experienced. Some good crops of swedes are to be seen round the districts, and the hay all seems to be in good condition.

The Tumahu hall committee have had four very successful euchre parties and dances up to the present. The ping pong club's evenings have also proved very popular. The following are the prize winners at the euchre parties: —Ladies: Misses M. Smith, M. Jones, I. Jones and I. Hoskin; gents: Messrs. Matthews, M. Haycock and B. Smith (2).

The Warea Road team was successful in winning the light-weight section at the Okato tug-o’-war, and are to be congratulated on their well-deserved win.
