POTATOES IN AUSTRALIA.
FAMINE PRICES LIKELY TO RULE. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received July. 15, 8 p.m. Sydney, July, 15. The price of Tasmanian potatoes increased to-day £2 pel’ ton, making the wholesale price £2O compared with £7 this time last year. The Sun Newspaper, commenting upon the matter, says Tasmania and Victoria are at present supplying the whole of the Commonwealth, and unless the Federal Government removes the emoargo on the importation of New Zealand potatoes famine prices are likely to rule here until towards the end of tne year.
