TWO EAST-WEST FLIGHTS
FRANCE TO UNITED STATES.
PROGRESS REPORTS OPTIMISTIC.

Two Atlantic flights started from Le Bourget this morning. The Polish airmen Idzikowski and Kubali set off at 4.45 and the Frenchmen Costes and Belloutes at 5.30. The latter flew over Santander (Spain) at 9.30. M. Kubali's aeroplane was sighted at nine in the morning in latitude 46.25 north, longitude 9.8 west, height 800 feet. M. Costes’ plane sent a wireless message that it was flying without a hitch and was half-way to the Azores.
COSTES BEING FORCED DOWN.
TURNED BACK NEAR AZORES.
Received July 14. 11 p.m. United Service.. Paris, July 13. The Air Ministry announces the receipt of a wireless message from Lisbon chat M. Costes, after passing north of the Azores at six o’clock in the evening, had turned back to France. At 6.15 he was reported from Horta Poles, about 30 miles from Fayal Island and at 6.30 he was preparing to make an emergency landing.
A message from Villaeoublay states that he landed safely.
