WELLINGTON’S LAST DAY

minor events discussed

form mat have shown the way

SOUTH ISLANDERS APPEAR WELL

(By

“Moturoa.”)

Amorist experienced no difficulty in beating HOROMEA on Wednesday, but the New Plymouth mare may extend him more to-day. Thurnbell and line Aero will have their admirers.

This class of race has been a specialty for BONROSE this season and she does not appear to be badly treated with 24 pounds above the minimum. Justify has run well at the meeting and Zarene would bo benefited by her race on Thursday. Juggle has shown promise and so has the two-year-old, Roundelay.

Havering has been unlucky at the meeting and so has MAORI BOY. This pair may do better than Shortly and Royal Black.

WINTER OATS HANDICAP. One mile.

High Pitch won well on Thursday, hut the distance may not be far enough for him. Ruanui is improving and his turn cannot be far off. Puithair will be passed over in preference to Fairy Herald, who has won this race the last two years in succession. King’s Jest is a good sort and right in form, while Tancriri’s good showing against Paddon, confirmed the writer’s opinion of him. Gold Cure has been disappointing and of the rest Merry Mint has made the best showing - . This race will see a big difference in opinion, but “Moturoa” expects the public will go for FAIRY HERALD in preference to Taneriri and King's Jest, while a likely lightweight appears to be Merry Mint,

FABRIANO ran a fine race in the Wellington Steeplechase and may be preferred to Kawini, who won this race last year, and Radiate. Matu did not get a* clear run on Wednesday.

BLACK DUKE is meeting Kaiti on a pound worse terms than on Wednesday and, while Kaiti has improved greatly, the topweight may prove too classy for Kaiti and Taboo, at least.

KIA ORA HANDICAP. Five furlongs.

If BONROSE takes on this race the public wiil favour the speedy South island filly, but in her absence. HOPWOOD and Mark Mint would carry heavy support.
