PROTEST AT DISLOCATION. EFFECT UPON SOUTH ISLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, July 12. The Chamber of Commerce has sent a letter to the Union Company protesting against the dislocation of the passenger service between the South Island and Melbourne occasioned by the withdrawal of the Manuka for overhaul. “This creates a serious position as regards the southern portion of the Dominion/' states the letter. “It w^ 3 thought that the company would make an eil'ort to maintain the service, which is already suffering from an irregular and infrequent time-table. As the company is aware, efforts are being made to establish an improved service between here, Melbourne and Hobart, and, while temporary cancellation of the service at any time is detrimental to the advancement of this portion of the Dominion, it is specially so at this time.
