ELTHAM CHESS TOURNEY

MANY ENTRIES EXPECTED. Mr. J. Bruce, New Plymouth, hits been advised by the Eltham Chess and Draughts Club" that an open class tournament will be held there on July 26 and 27, for which entries will be accepted from all players, whether members of clubs or not. The draw will be announced later. It is expected to have a large number of entries, as already a number from Hawera, Eltham and Stratford have signified their intention of taking part. It is not known yet how many from New Plymouth will participate, but it is expected there will be a representative number of competitors. In view r f the large number of those who will be taking part hours of play have been suggested as follows; 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.; 2 pan. to 5 p.m.; and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Even with these sessions, some doubt ig entertained as to whether it will be possible to complete the tournament in the two days. August 26 is suggested as the date for the draughts match between the Eltham and New Plymouth Clubs for teams of 15 a-sidc. In regard to the matter of the club championship, it is pointed out that a previous communication on the subject should have made it clear that teams should consist of not less than five members.
