Almost a provincial significance was attached to the Celtic ball held in the Stratford town hall last night, visitors being present from practically every centre in Taranaki. The dominant decorative scheme was the green and white of tho club colours. There must have been over a mile of streamers woven, looped, and twisted into an elaborate overhead device, illuminated above and below by a fantastic arrangement of coloured lights and Chinese lanterns. The central masterpiece consisted of 30 magnificent punga fronds suspended at tho apex and drawn out to form a sweeping cone of shimmering greenery. Lights of varied hues twinkled from ■tho ferns, and entwining lycopodium. Around the walls were more pungas and bunches of greenery, tho hall presenting a memorable scene when dancing was in progress. In similar tasteful extravagance were the supper rooms arranged, green and white again serving as tho basis of tho decorative art. file committee responsible consisted of Messrs, J. Stephens, J. Callaghan, N. Waite, G. Richardson, L. Coley and M. C. Caiman. In addition a ladies strong general committee, headed by Mrs. W. Tunbridge, attended to the extensive supper arrangements, tho whole of the eatables being donated. McNeill’s orchestra of six instruments provided the music, while tho long hours of dancing were controlled by Messrs. C. Till and J. Stephens acting as M’s.C7 PERSONAL ITEMS.
