AERO CLUB PROGRESS.

Since its inauguration at a public meeting two months ago the Hawera Aero Club has been exceedingly enterprising, the secretary (Mr. W. G. Walkley) and the various committees having put plenty of time and energy into the completion of the foundation work. The results will be made apparent to-night, when a general meeting of members will be held in the Hawera Municipal Chambers. The number of members on the roll is 25’2, the list having been substantially increased by means of a stall at the recent winter show, while the membership committee has carried on a vigorous campaign. The rules committee has completed the draft of rules, which will be submitted to the meeting to-night, and it is hoped that the necessary steps will be taken for the incorporation of the club. Members also will have an opportunity to inspect plans drawn by Messrs Duffill and Gibson for a hangar, which will be one of the largest in the Dominion, with a width of 60 feet. The club has been informed that the proposed landing ground has been approved by the Director of Aviation, Major T. M. Wilkes, and the committee has renewed its option over the site. It is interesting to note that enterprise in connection with aviation is not confined to the Aero Clubs. The Hawera Club was established at a public meeting held on May 3 last. Within six weeks the secretary received from England letters offering supplies of aeroplanes and oil' and quoting prices. The first of these letters was dated from London on April 22. At that time, the club was not in existence. Publicity had, however, been given to the. proposal to form a club, and it is apparent that watchful agents in New Zealand quickly communicated with their English principals.
