STRATFORD SHOW SUCCESS

LARGE CROWD KEENLY INTERESTED

STRIKING DISPLAY OF POULTRY

DISTRIBUTION OF THE HONOURS

. A wonderful display of poultry—about 900 birds—was a great attraction at the Stratford Show yesterday, when the judging of this important branch of the exhibition was practically completed.

The day dawned sunny and windless after a heavy frost during the night. Conditions were thus ideal for visitors eager to see the show under the most favourable circumstances. Gate receipts on the opening day were up to the most sanguine expectations, but the half-holiday drew hundreds to the buildings, and members of the executive were the recipients of many congratulations. There was another’ large attendance in the evening.

RECORD POULTRY ENTRIES. With nearly 900 birds exhibited for competition in the poultry classes, a magnificent display was furnished in this important section of the show. -Fanciers from long distances realised the value of awards won at Stratford, where very strong competition has to be met and as a result some of the finest illustrations of the ideal in the various breeds were represented. The fact that the show had been allotted the North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association’s ehampionships for Utility Orpingtons, English Owls and African Owls (pigeons) and Finches (cage birds), while the New Zealand Leghorn Club (North Island) allotted its £lO shield for the best male or female in the utility class of White Leghorns and numerous special trophies were open for competition, lent a decided interest to judging.
