BRIXTON CRICKET CLUB

SUCCESSFUL BALL AT HUIRANGI. About 200 people attended the Brixton Cricket Club’s ball held in the Huirangi hall last night. The takings at the door- amounted to £ll 9s. The hall was prettily decorated in yellow and green, the club’s colours, and on one wall the words “Welcome 8.C.C.” were designed in chrysanthemums over two bats crossed. Martin’s orchestra played the music and extras were given by Mrs. L. Sarten and Air. T. Rowe.

A competition for a framed picture, which brought £5 14s, was won by Air. P. Surrey. Aliss B. L. Pearce (Waitara) won a competition for a bedspread donated by Airs. L. Tate, guessing the correct number of articles in the bottle, 435,. This competition brought £3 4s. Visitors were present at the dance from New Plymouth, Tarurutangi, Waitara and Tikorangi. The masters of ceremonies were Messrs. E. Andrews and A. Aitken, and the doorkeeper Air. Fred Andrews. The fancy dress competition was won as follows: Ladies, Aliss Vera Pui (old-time Alaori costume); men, Air. W. McCaul (Ancient Order of Frothblowers). Air. AlcCaul re-donated his prize of £1 to the club. The ladies’ committee which so successfully ran the evening was Alesdames H. Limmer, W. McCaul, A. 11. Johnston, Watson, E. Andrews, H. Andrews, A. Aitken, C. Hall, E. Longstaffe, R. Higgins, C. Street, and Alisses F. Aitken, N. Andrews, H. Andrews, V. Andrews, D. Watson, A. Higgins and L. Limmer. Air. W. Johnston was - a very capable secretary.
