CHILDREN IN FANCY DRESS

SUCCESSFUL BALL AT WAREA. The Warea hall presented an animated scene last night on the occasion of the children’s fancy dress ball, which was held in aid of the schooj funds, primarily with the object of purchasing a piano for the school. The hall had been tastefully decorated with nikau and greenery forming a bower that made a fitting setting for fairiesy elves, and other dainty sprites, as well as Red Indians, Sundowners, Spanish maidens, etc., not omitting a quaint rat. Competitions for' the children were also held, the winners being.—Spot dance, Olive Goodwin and Maisie Sole; Monte Carlo, Sheila 'Murphy and Jean Moffatt.

Supper, supplied by the ladies in lavish manner, was then dispensed. While the children were frolicking about in the hall the adults, or at least about a dozen tables of them, were engaged in euchre in the supper room, Messrs. R. Julian and O. Johns having charge. On counting up it was discovered that the ladies’ prize had been won by Miss Cosgrove and the men’s by Mr. V. Bailey, each with nine games, while the consolation prizes were won respectively by Miss Jones and Mr. J. Meiers, each with three games. Dancing was then resumed and kept up with unabated vigour until the early hours. The function was splendidly organised and proved thoroughly successful, a tribute to the co-operation between parents, teachers (Misses Ward, Richards and Cosgrove) and the committee (Messrs. A. J. Tilley, chairman, O. Johns, R. Julian, E. Woodward and J. Goodwin (secretary).,
