NEW- MEASURES INTRODUCED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Petitions were read in the House of Representatives to-day praying for the resumption of work on the Taupo Railway and for an amendment of the Gaming Act. Mr. E. J. Howard gave notice of his intention to introduce a Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill. Mr. W. J. Jordan gave notice of his Intention to introduce a Compulsory M'litarj’ Service Repeal Bill. The Hon. E. A. Ransom, in reply to Mr. M. J. Savage, said he would give sympathetic consideration to the request that painters employed on the Hobsonville Aerodrome be paid award wages. The Prime Minister, replying to questions by Mr. G. Black, said arrangements for the rehabilitation of settlers in the Murchison district were in hand and (he central committee would be giving the matter consideration to-morrow. The position of eet-tlers in the Lower Maruia Valley was also under investigation, and it was hoped information on the subject would be before the central committee tomorrow. The Government had not neglected any steps it could possibly take in any part of the country since the earthquake had first occurred. In reply to a further question by Mr. Bia Sir Joseph Ward said that if necessary arrangements would be made for the steamer Nile to call to discharge cargo at Little Wanganui en route to Karamea. The Hon. E. A. Ransom, in reply to a question by Mr. Black, said every possible j effort was being made to restore road communication with Karamea and other places affected by the earthquake. The following were granted leave of absence: Mr. W. J. Polson, three days (urgent public business); Sir Maui Pom are, six days (illness); Mr. T. D. Bur..ett, four days (illness).

The following Bills were introduced and read a first time: Gisborne Harbour Board Amendment Bill (Mr. K. S. Williams for Mr. W. D. Lysnar), Bluff Harbour Board Empowering Bill (the Hon. P. A. de la Perel'e), Offenders Probation Amendment Bill (Mr. H. G. R. Mason), Workers’ Annual Leave Bill (Mr. D. G. Sullivan).
