CHESS AND DRAUGHTS
THE ELTHAM CHAMPIONSHIP. Keen interest is being taken by members of the Eltham Chess and Draughts Club in the respective championships. In the chess championship, Mr. Avery with an unbeaten record of six games, holds practically an unassailable position, but in the draughts championship there is a keen contest for supremacy, three players, Messrs. Stauners, Micklesen and Chalmers, being equal, while a fourth, Mr. Rankin, also has a chance. Details are:— Draughts.—Stunners played six games, 4% points; Micklesen 6,4%; Chalmers 6,4%; Rankin 4,3; Ansford 6,3; Gargan 6,3; Picard 2,1; Martin 4,1%; Lehrke 4,j; Taylor 4, 0. Chess.—Avery six games, six points; Ansford 5,2%; Lebeau 2,2; Turner 3, 1; J. Lehrke 4, %; W. Lehrke 3,0; Ryburn 1, 0. W.. LEHRKE CHESS CUP. The competition for the W. Lehrke Chess Cup appears to rest between Stratford and Hawera, neither of which has been beaten, and the meeting between the it wo is being awaited with interest, Tire position is:— Played. Won.
