X GAMES IN NEW PLYMOUTH. VOGELTOWN WIN DEARE SHIELD. Exceptionally large entries for the Deare Shield primary school basketball competition (A grade) and for a rose bowl donated by 'the primary school teachers (B grade) necessitated the use of three arounds at Pukekura Park on Saturday.” Twenty-two teams competed in the two grades of the competition, which is open to all primary schools in Taranaki, and teams from as far south as Stratford participated. Inglewood Convent won the B grade final with ease, their co-ordin-ation in attack being too much for the majority of their .opponents. The tournament' was run under the auspices of the Taranaki Primary School Girls’ Sports Association, and the officials were: President, Miss Harper; secretary, Miss King; scorers, Misses Evans, Henderson, Gibson, Hawkes, Shaw, McKenzie; time-keeper, Miss Lunam; basketball recorder, Miss Ritchie; marshal, Miss Brodie; referees, Misses Valentine, Harper, Tarry, Louis, King, Kurt a. The trophies were presented by. Miss Harper, who congratulated the winners on securing the A grade competition while still eligible for the B grade.
