The death of Mr. William James Bowles, aged GO, proprietor of a big drapery establishment,-is reported from . Christchurch. He was inspecting a cat in a motor garage last night when he - stepped back into a pit, receiving sev* t ere. injuries. He did not regain consciousness, dying' in hospital. He leaves) ■ a wife and two sons.
Mr. “Jerry” Otterson left, New Plymouth for Wanganui yesterday after giving a short address to the High School boys in the Assembly Hal), reeito ing a portion of Elbert Hubbard's “Message to Garcia” and also “Jim Bludso.. On' Wednesday night he broadcast to children as “Uncle Jerry.” Mr. Otterson has made a good recovery from tho injury to his -spine incurred nearly 30 years ago in a bicycle accident. Ha has for many years been on the. Parliamentary staff, where ho made the acquaintance of Tom Bracken, the AeW Zealand poet, but 'he is now seeking a transfer to the Publicity Department, Ho has spent four months at Waitonm and desires to broadcast the wonders of the caves.
