The death of Mr. Blife Carman, the Canadian poet at New Canaan, Connecticut, is reported by cable. Mr. Justice Ostler and his associate, Mr. Meredith, motored to Wanganui yesterday, in order to attend to Supreme Court business there.

The Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mrs. Cobbe, and the Minister’s secretary, Mr. Matthews, will arrive in New Plymouth by the mail tram this evening and will stay at the Criterion Hotel. To-morrow afternoon Mr. Cobbe will open the winter show of the Taranaki Agricultural Society. He and the other members of his party will leave for the south by the mail train on Wednesday morning.

O’£bughlin has occurred at Papatoetoe after a brief illness, Born in Nelson, Mr, O’Loughlin received his education there, and at th© ago of 14 joined the Railway Department as a cadet. In the course of-44 years’ service. Mr. O’Loughlin was sta-. tioned at different periods over practically the whole of New Zealand. For some time he was stationmaster jat New Plymouth. In 1907 he was appoint-, ed goods agent at Auckland, in 1’914 assistant district traffic manager, and in 1920, after being traffic manager at Oha-. kune, ho was appointed district traffic manager at Auckland. Mr. OLoughlin retired on superannuation in 1922, and, since then had resided at Papatoetoe. Mr. O’Loughlin is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
