SHIP'S SAILING DELAYED
FIREMEN SENT TO PRISON.
PUNISHMENT FOR LAWLESSNESS

Napier, Jan. 28.
In eases arising out of trouble at Port Ahuriri on December 10 last, when firemen delayed the sailing of the coastal vessel Tangaroa, three firemen and a watereider ’ (R. Derbyshire, O. Mulholland, J. McKenzie and R. Farmer), on charges pf procuring lawlessness and intimidation, were convicted and sentenced to one month’s hard labour on the first, and fourteen days on the second charge respectively in the Napier Police Court by Mr. A. 31. Mowlem, SAI., this morning.
E. Hewitt, characterised by the Magistrate as the ringleader, was sentenced to two months of the first charge and fourteen days on tho second. On a charge of assault he was fined £lO and costs, in default two months’ imprisonment.
