Mr. S. W. Nolan, Crown Prosecutor, Gisborne, is spending a few days in New Plymouth. He is accompanied by Mrs. Nolan.
The Hon. O. J. Hawken returned to Taranaki from Wellington yesterday, accompanied by Mrs. Hawken. He stayed last night at Eltham. Sir Harry Lauder is suffering from a fractured rib sustained while making a film. He has been ordered to make a trip to New Zealand to recuperate. Messrs. C. E. Bellringer, E. Walter, and H. G. Dickie, M.’sP. for Taranaki, Stratford and Patea, returned last night to their respective constituencies. Mr. J. W. Deem, of the Fields Division of the Agricultural Department, who had been on a brief visit to New Plymouth, returned to Wanganui yesterday.
Mr. C. H. Gatland, who has held the honorary position of choirmaster of the Presbyterian Church, Fitzroy, for the past seven years, was made the recipient of several tokens of esteem from the choristers and churchpeople of that district last night. Mr. Gatland’s resignation was received with regret.
The Earl of Orford, who will arrive at Wellington by the Ruahine to-mor-row, intends to spend a long holiday in New Zealand. He first visited the Dominion while he was in the Royal Navy. Indifferent health is one of the reasons prompting his visit to New Zealand. He will be accompanied by the Countess of Orford.
