GREAT SWISS LANDSLIDE
FURTHER FALLS FEARED. London, Oct. 3. Further small landslides occurred last night on the slopes of Monte Arbiuo, in the Swiss canton of Ticino, says the Geneva correspondent of the Times. It can now be seen that the portion of tho mountain which crashed yesterday was a mile wide. Tho landslide formed a cascade, 3660 ft in depth, before it piled up in indescribable confusion at the bottom of Arbedo Valley, burying 16 houses. Geologists who approached the slide express the opinion that the whole mountain is doomed in a few days to give way to the biggest landslide in history. Dwellers in Ticino Valley are prepared for the worst, but they remain calm, despite the rumblings and detonations, like heavy artillery, which are audible for ten miles.
