A FIGHT FOR LIFE

LOST MAN'S ORDEAL. Andy Taylor, a prospector found in Northern Manitoba, Canada, by an aeroplane after h© hud been missing for 48 days, has told the tale of his for life. He said: “I could not have stuck it much longer. When I got lost 1 had three matches, a pail, a penknife, and an axe. The last match failed when I was trying to light a beacon. I swam hundreds of rivers and lakes, taking off ray clothes and pushing them ahead on a pole. My knee-boots did not last long. I cut oil the uppers and made moccasins of them.

“Maybe yotr think you wouldn't eat fish found dead, but, believe me, you would. Frogs are slippery devils and hard to catch. The few berries I found tasted like strawberries and cream. Finally I found a patch of potatoes planted by Indians at a deserted Hudson Bay post.

“It was while returning to this patch that I was rescued. Flies throughout were torture. I would try to escape, but I was always faced by the black wall of the forest. I know now it took me IS days to cover 18 miles,”
