MARINE WORKERS’ UNION
ENGLISH ORGANISATION MOOTED. “SOMETHING VERY BIG TO TACKLE” By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. j Received Oct. 7, 11.15 p.m. Sun Cable. London, Oct. 6. Rumours have been current for several days following the expulsion of the j National Union of Seamen from the j Trades Union Congress that the Trans- | port General Workers’ Union shortly opens a campaign for the organisation of a Marine Workers’ Trade Union. The leaders are troubled because there is now no organisation representing the seamen affiliated to the Trade Union Congress general council. The organisation committee is earnestly considering the whole question or seamen. Mr. Cathery, acting general secretary, says the National Union of Seamen has been established forty years and is recognised by important people in the shipping industry. “Any other union that tries to orga- ( nise the seamen will have something very big to tackle,” says Mr. Cathery. “Certainly we shall not take it lying | down; we shall fight anybody and < everybody.”
