ELTHAM NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent). The Town Hall was well filled on Friday evening, when a variety entertainment in aid of the All Saints’ and Knox Presbyterian Churches was presented by local and distant artiste. The first portion of the programme was contributed by the following:—Mrs. A. V. Stamp (song), “The Toreador”; The Fraser Road School Choir, “Land of Hope and Glory”; Miss Audrey Beesley, dance and song, “Jack Tar”; Mrs. J. A. Rankin and Mr. A. V. Stamp, duet, “O Lovely Night”; the Rawhitiroa Road school pupils, folk danee, “Shepherds, Hey,” and “The Wheel Dance”; the Eltham School choir, “Ye Banks and Braes”; the Mata School pupils, folk dance, “Sir Roger de Coverley”; Mrs. J. A. Rankin, song, “Waltz Song,” from “Tom Jones”; the Eltham School pupils in a humourous sketch, “Gloamerrick, the Wonder Horse”; Mrs. Marchant’s pupils, “Jig”; Fraser Road School choir, "Bells of Eve”; Miss Jean MaeLachlan, clog dance. Ths items were in every case well received and encores were demanded. Particular interest w’as shown in the singing of the various school choirs and their pleasing rendering of popular songs, all of wliich reflected great credit on those responsible for their training. The second portion of the programme consisted of song, patter and dance items given by the Soolem Towser nigger minstrels under the lead of Mr. Walker, tho following being responsible for the undoubted success of this portion of the entertainment.—Mrs. Whitacre, Misses Wilson (2), Carman (2), Clarke, Cartwright, and Burrows, and Messrs. A. V. Stamp, F. Silver, J. Halpin, Sait, Gavigan, Davys, R. Belcher and Hargraves. Mrs. J. O’Hagen was accompanists for the first part of the programme and Miss Eiborne for the second. The piano was kindly lent by the Bristol Piano Co. through Mrs. Jardine.
