DISSENSION IN THE CHURCH
, BISHOPS ASKED TO DELAY ACTION By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. United Service. London, Oct. 5. Sir 'William Joynson-Hicks, Parliamentary leader of the Evangelicans, has issued a statement declaring that the Church’s trouble has arisen because certain clergy practised services contrary to the Church’s doctrine. The bishops permitted the practices to grow to such an extent that they came to the conclusion that they were unable to deal with the irregularities, except ■by making those illegal legal, though Parliament declined to sanction the alterations. They have made a very grave decision, and they themselves are setting an example of lawlessness. Sir William appeals to the bishops to delay action, saying: “We cannot give up the principles of the Reformation."
