TRANSFERRING UNEMPLOYED
BRITAIN AND CANADA CONFER. DIFFICULTIES OF FINANCING. British Official Wirelees. Rugby, Oct. 5. Mr. Mackenzie King, Canadian . Premier, arrives in London to-morrow. Mr. Egan, permanent head of the Canadian Immigration Department, is at present in London. The object of Mr. Egan’s visit is to improve British immigration to Canada, and one of the principal aims of Mr. Mackenzie King’s visit will be to discuss the same question. He discussed the matter with: Mr. Baldwin on the Continent. From the British viewpoint the chief problem is the removal of miners from the areas in which they form an incurable accumulation of unemployment into other areas. It is hoped tlfat Canada may make a moral contribution towards the solution of this problem, but a difficulty arises over financing any scheme. The Canadian authorities believe that about 6500 of the 8500 British miners who went to Canada as harvesters will find permanent work there. If this could bo repeated every year it is pointed out that it would considerably ease unemployment in this country.
