How a Maori child, aged two years and a-haif, died in the Masterton hospital, after eating caustic soda, was told at an inquest held in Masterton recently. Evidence was given . by Moti ■Haeata, mother of the child, to the effect that on Sunday afternoon ehe was cleaning a kettle with a tin of caustic soda, which latter she left on the floor of the kitchen. Her children were at the time playing out of doors. At length witness turned round at a scream from a child.
