QUOTA OF BRITISH FILMS
ATTITUDE OF THE EXHIBITORS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 19. On the subject of the Government Cinematograph Films Bill, Mr. J. Robertson, secretary of the New Zealand Exhibitors’ Association, said that, while they did not welcome the Government’s interference with business, they had recognised that the aim of the Government was legitimate and reasonable, and from the national viewpoint desirable. "The Prime Minister has recognised that exhibitors are meeting him fairly, and he readily accepted the offer by the association to the effect that, if the Government would suspend the operation of the compulsory quota clause, exhibitors would voluntarily screen the quota of the Bill.” It ie understood that failure to do so will bring the compulsory clauses into operation. Mr. Robertson was sure the British film industry could supply good quality pictures to meet the demand.
