GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S VISIT,
SUGGESTED PROGRAMME. At Monday night’s meeting of the Stratford Borough Council a suggested programme for the visit of Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Fergusson was outlined by the Mayor. Their Excellencies will arrive in the forenoon of Wednesday, June 13, and it was proposed they should be met on arrival by the Mayor and councillors. Their Excellencies have intimated their preference to lunching privately rather than incurring the expense to the burgesses of a public function. Accordingly, in the afternoon they will be conducted to the Town Hall, where children of the primary, convent and S. Mary’s schools will be assembled.
“No doubt the Governor-General will desire to say a few words to the children, and in view of the lateness of the year it is inadvisable to prepare an open-air assembly,” said the Mayor. He went on to explain that the Town Hall could be suitably decorated for the occasion and that councillors with their
wives would occupy seats on the stage. The party would then visit the Technical High School, where pupils could be drawn up in the assembly hall. Afternoon tea could be served there, and the visitors subsequently taken to visit the hospital and to meet members of the Hospital Board. In the course of the afternoon opportunity would also bo taken to inspect the parks of Stretford.
