TRAINING OF SHEEP DOGS

ELTHAM-TAKOU TRIAL CLUB. The annual report of the EithainTakou Sheep Dog Trial Club states: — “In presenting the fifth annual report and statement of accounts,” states the president (Mr. L. E. Jaekson), ‘I am pleased to state that steady progress has been made, and that the record established at our ’027 trials has been exceeded at our 1028 meeting. The number of competitors and dogs actually competing established a record, I believe, for Taranaki, and perhaps further afield. The work of practically all the dogs competing was very good, and the success of some of our young competitors was very gratifying. In many cases they were competing against some . of the best dogs in the North Island. I “Our success is in a large measure due to the very substantial support we | have received from our Eltham mem- I bfers. This support will undoubtedly increase, and I hope to see a sub-commit-tee of our club elected in Eltham this year. _ “While not working on commercial lines, yet it is very necessary that a strong reserve should be gradually built up. You will therefore be pleased to see that our fixed deposit of £9O last year has been increased to £125, and can still be slightly added to. “I believe it would be a benefit to all dog trial clubs if they were grouped together in districts, taking as an example, say, from Waitotara to Awakino. This group would hold annual district championship meetings, on a ground to bo selected by the group, or North Island Association, each year.

■ “I wish to thank the members of our ciub, and specially the secretary and assistant secretary, for their very consistent and kindly support.
