CROWD COUNTS OUT REFEREE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. In a middleweight boxing match for a purse of £lOO between Artie Hay (Hastings) ant Nelson McKnight .(Hamilton) to-night, Hay was awarded the verdict on a knock-out in the -feurteenth round. A demonstration by the crowd followed, men rushing round the ring and counting out the referee. Hay was well ahead on pointe, but the crowd alleged that the referee had been too hasty in counting McKnight out. McKnight interviewed later said there had been an unfortunate mistake, and he would take blame for it. He was quite strong and could have stood up at three. I|, knocked out Gordon Kiely, 11.51, in the sixth round of a 15-round contest in the Leichardt Stadium to-night for the middleweight championship of Australia. McDonald forced the lighting from the commencement and in the third lound attacked strongly to the' body. In the following round he almost had Kiely out with a heavy right to the jaw, the gong saving. Towards the end of the fifth round Kiely was again floored and in the sixth was dropped for nine with a similar punch. On his rising McDonald again connected with a heavy right to the jaw and the referee stopped the contest, declaring the New Zealander the winner.
