LEAGUE DISCUSSES TARIFFS. By Telegraph—Press Assn —Copyright. Australian Press Association. Received May 18, 8.30 p.m. Geneva, May 18. Very divided opinion is existing in the committee appointed to consider the tariff problem. The British delegates are pressing for reductions on particularly selected groups of commodities and insisting that within each group raw, semi-finished, and finished products be included in the list to include woollen worsteds, iron and steel. The French delegate in opposing this said a rigid principle courted failure. Mr. McDougal (Australia) supported this point of view, pointing out that there were non-Europeari countries to consider and the remaining committee. Any action the League took in the economic sphere affected the prestigs of the League one way or another.
