SERVICE TO DAIRY INDUSTRY

PRESENTATION TO MR. W. GRANT. The high esteem in which Mr. W. Grant was held by factory managers as dairy instructor, a position he filled before taking over his new appointment as chief grader at Patea, was marked on Tuesday, when about 24 factory managers and friends met him at the grading works in Patea and afterwards adjourned to luncheon rooms. Representatives were there from nearly all the factories in South Taranaki. Numerous apologies were received from friends in both South and North Taranaki. Mr. A. McKenzie, Mr. Stevens, formerly grader at Wellington, and Mr. Tennant were present. In proposing the health of their guest, Sir. Illingworth said that although in Ids new position they did not see as much of Mr. Grant as previously, ho had net left their district altogether, and for this they were glad. The malingers of South Taranaki desired to place on record his work among them. Mr. Grant had been travelling round the factories for nearly 20 years and the best of feelings existed at all times between managers and officers of the dairy division. It was through having officers of Mr. Grant’s stamp that such feelings prevailed. - Years ago, before they had a laboratory in the district, much was done by Mr. Grant in having factories better equipped to deal with their supplies, and his advice and work were of great service.

Messrs. Thorburii, McDonald. Fraser and McQneen, who had old recollections, recalled a few incidents of the early days. Musical honours were accorded Mr. Grant, who said whatever he had done had been his duty. It had always been a pleasure to him to meet the factory managers on his rounds, as it still would be when they visited him n> Pn tea.

He referred to the big increase in the production of the province, and predicted that within 20 years it would be doubled. He thanked all for their kind words and on behalf of Mrs. Grant ana himself thanked them for the silver tea service presented them. Song and story by Messrs. L. McDonald and Fraser concluded a happy afternoon.
