SIDEY’S TIME

EFFECT OF REVERSION. A MOTION THAT LAPSED “Has anyone any more general business before we adjourn?" asked the president of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce (Mr. C. H. Weston) towards the end of a meeting of the chamber last night. “Yes,” said Mr. G. Fraser in a firm voice. “I must ask the chamber to consider the serious effect on the children of the reversion to standard time. The children cannot get accustomed to the altered hours. I move that it be a recom. mendation from this chamber that arrangements be made for standard time not to come into operation during the month of March.”

Gentle laughter followed a short and ominous silence. Mr. Fraser: You people think I am joking. I am quite serioue I can tell you. If you were on the beach you would know the trouble we experience with the children.

Mr.- T. C. List: It (summer time) won’t come back again.. One or two snappy exchanges took place. Mr. Benoni White (to Mr. Fraser): I won’t second your motion, but I should like to compliment you on the keenness of your sarcasm. The chairman called in vain for a seconder to the motion, which accordingly lapsed.
