DIRECTOR OF KEW GARDENS
VISIT OF EMINENT BOTANIST. • Dr. A. W. Hill, F.R.S., C.M.G., Director of Kew Gardens, London, will arrive in New Plymouth by service car at one o’clock on Friday. To make arrangements for his visit a special committee has been set up comprising the Mayor (Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths) and Mr. C. E. Bellringer, M.P. (representing the residents of the town and district), Mr. T», C. List (Elgmont National Park Board), Mr. G. M. Spence (Tourist and Expansion League), and Messrs. E. Maxwell, V. C. Davies and M. Fraser (botanical interests). The arrangements agreed to are that the Mayor, accompanied by the councillors and members of the committee, should welcome Dr. Hill on his arrival at the Criterion Hotel. After luncheon he will be taken to Pukekura Park and thence to Mt. Egmont. He will leave next morning by the mail train fir Palmerston North. The programme for the afternoon is necessarily tentative, as Dr. Hill may desire to visit other p.ncea of botanical and horticultural interest.
