Mr. Justice Ostler, who has been seriously ill, is now convalescing. Const. W. R. - Howell, of Christchurch, is at present visiting his parents at Urenui. Sir James Cooper will probably he the new chairman of the Pacific Cable Board, states a London cable.
Sir George Fuller has been appointed Agent-General for New South Wales in London, announces a Sydney cable. The Rev. J. D. Wilson, accompanied by Mrs. Wilson, left on Monday for Christchurch to attend the meetings of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. President Coolidge presented Captain Lindbergh with a Hubbard Medal at a luncheon given to numerous oceanic fliers, states a Washington cable.
A large gathering of the Bench, the legal profession and Justices of the Peace in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court, presided over by the senior Magistrate, Mr. Cutten, paid a tribute to the memory of the late Mr. J. W. Poynton, 8.M., expressed regret at the death of an excellent colleague and bore testimony to his conscientious discharge of duty throughout his long illness. —Press Assn.
