Sir Austen Chamberlain, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, celebrated bis 64th birthday on Sunday.

He was close upon 80 years of age. Mr. John McMahon, lato chief stipendiary steward of the New Zealand racing clubs, who has accepted the chairmanship of the stipendiary stewards of the Australian Jockey Club, Sydney, was the guest of owners and racing clubs of Wellington, Taranaki and southern Hawke’s Bay districts at a complimentary dinner at Palmerston North last night. He was presented with an address and a gift of cutlery. Many references were made to the esteem in which the guest was held, and the loss his departure would be to racing in New Zealand. Mr. McMahon was also the recipient of a token of esteem from the Wanganui Racing Club.— Press Association.
