FIGHT FOR WORLD MARKETS GREAT CROWDS AT OLYMPIA STATES COMPETITION MET (British Official Wirelfes.) Rugby, Oct. 16. A new record in motor show attendances was set up at Olympia yesterday. The official figures were 45,941). It was the third day of the show. One firm during the day received orders for £175,090 worth of cars and another firm an order worth £lOO,OOO. The Dispatch states that the fight of motor manufactures to (Secure the domination of the world markets culminated when record crowds flocked to the motor show to-day. Although 55 stands display foreign cars it is estimated that since the opening on October 13 £30,000,000 worth of Britain’s output in .1928 has been sold, despite a 20 per cent, increase in 1927 that has been planned. The fact that one of the largest of the British manufacturers refused a purchase offer of £12,000,000 from an American organisation that hoped to develop an Empire market shows the intensity of the fight for intcrnationl supremacy.

When the series of motor shows, of which that now open at Olympia is the first, comes, to an end the Central Association of Motor Manufacturers and Trader's will, it is stated in official circles, meet representatives of the export credit section of the Overseas Trade Department in order to discuss possible developments of the system of credits in connection with the export motor trade. It is explained that a good deal of the trade- in South America and other countries is at present done on the instalment system. With a few exceptions, it is stated, manufacturers of motor care do not make such terms with dealers as will enable them to give the long credit that the instalment system demands.

The object of the conference will be to consider the requirements of the industry so that, if any modifications are necessary in the existing regulations, particularly with regard to floating credits, they can be made.
