SCOUTS AND GUIDES

THE MOVEMENT AT WESTOWN. Thanks largely to the keen interest taken in the scout movement by Scoutmaster A. Mills and Cubmaster Smith, and in the Girl Guide movement by Mrs. Commissioner Hodson, Miss Grace and Mrs. Knox, both the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements have made great strides in Westown since the inception of the movement in that suburb less than 12 mouths ago, Tho interest taken in the movement by the parents and by the residents of the district generally was shown by the crowded attendance at the West own Hall on Saturday night, when the combined scouts and guides, assisted by their juniors, the cubs and the brownies, gave an interesting and enjoyable entertainment. Tho young performers entered into the spirit ot the entertainment, and gave their numerous and varied items in a manner that spoke well for their enthusiasm and for tho training they had ■ received at tiie hands of their officers, assisted by Mrs. V. .Smith and others. As a result of the entertainment, though the price of admission was very modest, tho movement will benefit to the extent of £l3, which will be equally divided between the scouts and the guides. This response, together with the appreciative manner in which tho items were received, must have been some recompense to those who had taken such pains to arrange the entertainment. A pleasing feature was the spontaneous way in which other artists assisted withthe entertainment-, and they can be assured that they will be assisted in return: indeed, that is the true spirit of ihe inurement. 'i he program mo was as follows: :■ ."u-;\i.’:<■ solo. Guido Marjorie Sole; -Hero’s for Hood Old England, cubs; recitation.
