PIGEON FLYING

NEW- PLYMOUTH CLUtBS. Both the Egmont Homing Club and I. New Plymouth Homing Club held successful races recently, the former from Waverley and the latter from Westmere. Seven lofts competed in the Egmont club s first race of the old bird season, The club was favoured with a fine day, but a strong westerly wind which the birds had to contend with stopped any fast times being registered. Murray’s No. 906; time, Ihr 54min 48sec; 888.87 yards per min .. 5 1* Kendall's No. 40tt; time, Ihr 59min; 829.8 yards per min .... 6 The second old bird race under the auspices of the New Plymouth Homing Club was flown from Westmere, a distance uf 80 miles by airline. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 11.30 a.m., and he reported that a strong northerly gale existed upon liberation. Tn the face, of this wind, however, the birds made good progress, and the winner was clocked in at 1.43 p.m. The race rings since returned to the secretary indicate that every bird homed.
