BOY'S TEETH NEGLECTED
FINE IMPOSED ON PARENTS. A man and his wife were summoned in London recently, for neglecting to have dental treatment for their son, aged ten, thus causing unnecessary suffering and injury to his health. Counsel said that representations had been made to the parents about the condition of the child’s teeth since 1022, and although offers of free treatment had been made they refused to do anything until after the summonses were served. The boy had suffered in consequence from abscesses in the jaw, anaemia, and enlarged glands, and was generally in a poor condition. The father denied that the child had suffered, and said that he was attended by a private dentist. The London County Council doctor wanted to take all the teeth out at once. The Magistrate, in imposing a fine of £2 on the man, with £3 3s costs, and Onr of £1 on the wife, said that it was a “serious ease of obstinacy.”
