STRIKE AT SUGAR MILL
PATROL BY ARMED POLICE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 31, 10 p.m. Brisbane, May 31. A squad of police sent to prevent possible violence at the sugar mill strike at South Johnstone arrived in civilian clothes, carrying arms and ammunition hidden in parcels. A conference of the parties to the dispute failed to arrive at an agreement and the farmers state that if labour is not shortly forthcoming they will themselves work the mill. The police are patrolling the farms in consequence of reported threats that the strikers would set fire to the cane.
