EMPIRE MARKETING

ITS FRUITS IN GREAT BRITAIN. SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 30. In the House of Commons, Sir Harry Brittain asked if there was any evidence that the efforts of the Empire Marketing Board were bearing fruit in the Dominions. Mr. L. C. M. S. Amery replied that it was clearly established that the efforts of the board were stimulating the buying of Empire products here, thus considerably encouraging producers. Asked if the board was extending its labours to advertise British goods in Australia and New Zealand, Mr. Amery said: “No; the board’s work is a return for the Dominions’ substantial preference.” The Colonial Conference approved of a scheme, costing £175,000 per annum, to establish a Colonial scientific research service with a chain of stations maintaining liaison with the Empire Marketing Board, which will be a combined clearing house and information pool for scientific workers. It is expected that the marketing board will supplement the expenditure. The colonies are at present carrying on individually, hoping that this is the first step towards a scheme for fully developing latent resources throughout the Empire.
