FITZROY SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Fitzroy School Committee met on Monday night, when there were present: Messrs. J. A. Burr (chairman), G. H. Gallagher, H. Hall, J. K. Hawkins, R. J. Kibby, A. Pickering, J. W. Rickerifig, E Thomas, and A. E. Lewig (secretary); The beadmaster, Mr. G. A. Lyall, was also present. An apology for absence was made on behalf of Air. T. Florence. The Scoutmaster reported that the average attendance at the Boy Scout troop meetings was twenty-five. Several boys had passed their tenderfoot and other examinations. At the request of the scoutmaster, Mr. E. Armitage was asked to take the preliminary examination of the troop in ambulance work. The headmaster reported that the average attendance for the past month was 396.2. Thirteen pupils were admitted and twelve withdrawn. The highest attendance was 416, while the present roll number was 443. Broken attendance was due in many eases to a visitation of mumps. The preliminary work in connection with the school fernery is now completed, and immediately steps will be taken to obtain a supply of bush mould. Fuel, in the shape of coal, ccke end firewood, has been delivered during the month. While the school was closed an effective draught-screen was built at the infant school by the board’s staff; and backs were added to the children’s lockers, which are used as seats. The backs of the sitting children cannot now come in contact with the cold concrete walls. A grounds and works committee, consisting of the chairman, Alessrs. Gallagher, Hall and Florence, and a social and ways and means committee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs. Lyall, Lewis and Hawkins, were set up. It was resolved that the flagstaff <1 mated to the school by the Fire Board bo brought to the school grounds.
