LAWN TENNIS.
ASSOCIATION COUNCIL MEETS. REST RULES AMENDED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to-night decided to support the nominations of Miss Marjorie Maefarlane for the singles and doubles, Miss Marion Masfarlane for the doubles, Russell Young for the singles, and F. M. B. Fisher and Frank Wilding for the doubles. An amendment to the rules of the Wilding Shield competition was made, the effects of which will be to make play in a match continuous, without any rest at the end either of the first spell or between the sets. Regarding rest time in other matches played in the Dominion, after a long discussion the proposal was adopted that there should be permitted intervals, not exceeding ten minutes, after the third set in men’s match, and after the second in ladies’ matches.
The Canterbury Association having asked for the next championship, the chairman announced that it was almost certain that the gathering would be held at Christchurch, starting on Boxing Day.
