STAR V. STRATFORD. A fortnight next Saturday will see the Shield competitions throughout Taranaki in full swing. For weeks past clubs have been actively training and the majority are already fit to take the field and see out a hard fought game. Th e public are already looking forward to the coming season with the keenest anticipation, their appetite having been whetted by the bright displays witnessed last Saturday. To-morrow at Pukekura Park they will have an opportunity of seeing four teams in action. Two of the leading senior teams from the northern division, Star and Stratford, will play at full strength, and a great clash is expected. Stratford have a formidable pack, including Walter, Kivell and Young, whilst their backs have been greatly 'improved. Star has a particularly strong set of backs, including Falwasser, who has greatly improved as the result of his tour, and N. Ross, the ex-Inglewood, Clifton and Taranaki wing three-quarter. They also have a strong forward division, being light and fast. As a curtain-raiser Star juniors will meet New Plymouth High School, both of whom play a bright, open game. The proceeds will be in aid of the Pukekura Park Sportsground. TEAMS FOR TO-MORROW. The following will represent Tukapa fourths against Old Boys on Westown School ground to-morrow, at 1.45 p.m.— Lewis, Knott, Dineen, Jury, Drury, Adams, Main. Carr, Penwarden, Williams, Huggett, Bond. Bramly, Ellis, Hodge, Smith and Jury. The Star senior team will be:—Graham, Sturmey, Hoffmann, Wannecott, Wolfe (2), Clark, Mills, Morris, Julian, Ross (2), Semilhay, Falwasser, Spay. Star juniors v. High School.—Coultard, Broughton, Hogarth, Todd, Roberts, Mailman, Loveridge, Wiseman. Bennett, Wylie, Aitcheson, Nodder, Young, Pollock, Ritchie, Hoskin, Smith, Russell, Hancock, Hogan, Bedford. The following Okato players are requested to be on the ground at 2 p.m. on Saturday.—Jones, Roebuck, Goodwin (5), Julian (3), Taylor, Dickson, McGann, Hare, O’Sullivan, Roberts,, Coffe, West, Whenare, Mcßoberts. The following team has been selected to represent Clifton seniors in a match against Inglewood at Inglewood to-morrow (bus leaving at 1.30): —Cooper, Soffe, Williams, Hogan, Barriball, Tai, McAsey, Knuckey, Giddy, Sutton, Tottey, C. Tate, Parata, Puki, and Pepperell. Emergencies: Forwards. Peterson and Bourke; backs, McFarlane. Anyone not able to play should notify the selector.
