EVENTS IN PROSPECT. (By “Hurry On.”) Hynanna will be racing at Ellerslie at Easter and was to be sent up by train directly after the Masterton meeting. Joy King, High Pitch and Reremoana are at present the popular picks for the Easter at Ellerslie. • • • » The meeting of Gascony and Cinabue in the Great Northern Champagne should provide a great race. Damaris might cause trouble, however. In the Shade looks th e best of the rest. # » # .» At Riccarton Agrion is opposed by his stable mate Eulalie and three maidens. If his backers get their money back they will be fortunate. * * * # Songbird and Battle Scene both followed up victories in th e Craven Plate by annexing the Great Easter, and this year Nincompoop is going to attempt to do likewise. The Greenwood cast-off is on the improve and it is safe to say that he will put up a big bid for the honours on the day. • • • • It was very unfortunate for bis lady owner that Te Monanui should develop soreness right on the eve of important engagements. With 9.2 he was not overburdened in the Easter mile, and some good judges have always contended that a mile is his best distance and were quite prepared to see the son of Potoa run a great race on Easter Saturday. They had not forgotten his fine race over seven furlongs at Avondale in the spring, when giving away almost three stone, he finished within two lengths of the speedy High Pitch. ••« . • Races for two-year-olds in Australia are worth winning at present, the Sires Pro; duce Stakes to be run over seven furlongs at Randwick is expected to be worth £5OOO to the winner, and the Champagne Stakes on the following Wednesday £3OOO, a very nice collection for a smart two-year-old. New Zealand will be represented in both by the Leighton colt Paleta, and the “Aussie” cracks will have to do their best if they want to lower his colours. Royal Feast, their crack, will be ridden by M. McCarten, who will also have the mounts on Limerick in all his engagements. * * * * Ophir is credited with putting up a taking performance when he won the Autumn Handicap at Ashburton last Saturday, and he should be well in the market for the Hororata Cup on Saturday. * * * * Thracian, the full brother to the brilliant Heroic, has not yet broken his maiden status. However, he should not be long in doing so as he galloped a mile and aquarter at Mentone recently in the won-, derful time of 2.5 from a standing start. He is to be a starter in th e Leger on Saturday week, and a repetition of this form will have Limerick and Co. doing their best a long way from home. RACING IN AUSTRALIA. COUNT CAVOUR REPORTED SORE By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, April 7. Count Cavour developed soreness during the voyage across the Tasman. He was given easy exercise at Randwick, where, according to The Telegraph, he walked with a particularly short action and did not impress. The Telegraph adds: “He does not appear to have an ounce of flesh to spare, so it will be interesting to see how be shapes in training during the next few days.” ’
