WOMAN ADMITS STEALING
£BO TAKEN FROM YOUNG MAN AUCKLAND HOLIDAY INCIDENT. ACCUSED SENT FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.— Preu taeodalioa. Auckland, Last Night. A charge of stealing £B9 belonging to William Burnett was admitted by Mary Smith, aged 53, in the Police Court to-day. It was stated that Burnett, a young man from Aongatete, was spending his holidays in Auckland and met the accused on New Year’s Night. During his association with the woman the pair had several drinks. Later, he found he had been relieved of £BO which he had in his pocket, so he made a complaint to the police. Mary Smith’s room was visited by Detective Knight the following morning, and Burnett identified her as the woman with whom he had been associated with the night before. The sum of £65 was recovered, several notes falling from Mary Smith’s clothing, while another £lO note was found in the taxi which she had employed to take her home after leaving Burnett. The other £l5 she could not account for. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
