THE MISSING AUTHORESS

THOUSANDS JOIN IN SEARCH. By . Talegraph— Press Assn.—CopyrightLondon, Dec. 12. In response to the Chief Constable’s appeal, 2000 people, some bringing bloodhounds and other dogs, joined in the search on the Surrey Downs for Mrs. Christie all day long. No clue was discovered. The police have obtained a copy of a letter which Mrs. Christie wrote to her husband, previously reported to have been destroyed. They consider it showed an intention to disappear without returning. The police are also in possession of a note she wrote to her secretary, which they have sealed, and undertaken not to re-open unless she is dead. The Daily Mail says this letter was described as the letter of a broken-hearted woman, and explains at length the reasons for her disappearance. Colonel Christie denies that the letter can be thus described. Although it was written when his wife was highly nervy, it made no allegations against anyone. ANOTHER LADY DISAPPEARS. POLICE ASKED TO INVESTIGATE. Received Dec. 13, 9.50 p.m. London, Dec. 12. In addition to the Mrs. Christie mystery, relatives have asked Scotland Yard to find Una Crowe, 20 years of age, a daughter of the late Sir Eyre Crowe, who has disappeared from her home at Chelsea and of whom no trace can be found.
